After several months of continuous searching, the Missoni family released a statement yesterday saying that the small airplane that was carrying Vittorio Missoni has been located. The remains of the YV2615BN-2A aircraft were found north of Los Roques archipelago. Venezueluen officials are currently brainstorming ways to lift the plane from the ocean floor so that they can see if bodies are inside.
Besides Missoni, his wife and four others were on the plane that disappeared January 4 of this year. Two of these four people were flight crewmembers.
Italian authorities say that the plane’s owner did not have a certificate to operate the aircraft and that the Venezuelan pilot on board had an expired pilot’s license.

The missing passengers’ families, including the Missonis have thanked the Venezuelan and Italian governments for their “commitment in making this search possible.”
